As a local Cheltenham business, we are keen to support other beneficial Cheltenham community initiatives.
Here are some of the things we’ve been involved in to date.
Please get in touch if you have anything that you think we might be able to help with.
Charity Gift Vouchers
We will always consider requests for axe throwing gift vouchers for charitable fundraising, but please note that we get a lot of requests and are not able to give vouchers to everyone who asks.
Cheltenham charities/groups will get priority consideration.
Autism Service Dog Fundraiser 28 September 2022
On 28 September 2022, all proceeds from bookings at Eat Sleep Axe were donated to a fund to pay for an autism assistance service dog for a young boy named Orion.
Orion’s grandmother has started a fund to raise the £12,995 needed to pay for an autism service for him.
Autism service dogs are taught special skills specific to the autistic persons greatest difficulties, for example: anti-bolting (to stop the person running into traffic etc), meltdown support, sleep support and self harm prevention.
It is expected that the service dog will completely change Orion’s life and he will be able to access many places that he is currently unable to, including shops and other public places. Orion is non-verbal which causes him be become very frustrated when he cannot communicate, he often hurts himself such as banging his head on the floor or with objects, he also hits and scratches himself and pulls his hair. The service dog can help soothe and calm him before he reaches this point.
For more details about Autism Dogs CIC see www.autismdogs.co.uk .
We had a fun time throwing axes for this cause and hope that others will be inspired to contribute to the rest of the money needed.
Climate Change Trail Fundraiser 30 January 2022
On 30 January 2022, all proceeds from bookings at Eat Sleep Axe were donated to the Burrow’s Field project in Cheltenham, helping to create a Climate Change Trail for the area.
Leckhampton Rovers Football Club, in partnership with Cheltenham Borough Council, are two thirds of the way through a £1 million development project at the Burrow’s Fields in Leckhampton, Cheltenham. So far they have completed work on half of the planned new pitches, as well as the pavilion, which includes changing rooms and a new community facility. It also plans to start developing other sports such as cricket and recreational activities at the site.
Approximately 1000 trees were planted at the Burrow’s in March 2022, and the money raised from the 30 January axe throwing event, enabled the additional landscaping of a pond area and Climate Change trail, to be enjoyed by local people.
Planting new trees isn’t going to combat the climate crisis on its own, but it is definitely part of the solution and Eat Sleep Axe is committed to supporting tree planting initiatives. Our axe throwing targets are made from sustainably grown soft woods, but we would like to see more native hardwood trees planted to benefit the planet for the long term.
Halloween Charity Tournament 31 October 2021
Our first ever tournament saw teams from across Cheltenham competing to win a prize pot of £360 for their chosen charity.
Teams had 100 throws at the WATL-style (World Axe Throwing League) target and the highest score on the day was 267 points by team FourFingerKitKat. Their chosen charity was Heart Heroes, who work with children and their families living with heart conditions, providing services for these children, to help them meet others who are in similar situations and allow their family to talk to other families going through related experiences.
